This may simply be a decorative Victorian backplate or possibly for an irregular cavalry/ yeomanry unit?
The brass has been polished clean to the outside but largely uncleaned to the inside. All leather straps are broken off and missing from the backplate. There is a repair to the bottom of the back-plate and a small crack to one side.
Used overall condition comensurate with age.
