£1,650.00

Description

1887 dated .577/.450 Martini Henry rifle MkIV with yaghatan bayonet. 48.1/2in., barrel 32.1/2in; lock marked with Victorian crown surmounting VR Enfield 1887. Steel barrel, cleaning rod, barrel bands, action, lever and butt plate to a pleasing grey/ brown patina with very little pitting. Nice yaghatan bayonet mount, plain wallnut stock with a few knocks and dings as to be expected in a working military rifle of this age, one filled with light coloured wood filler beneath the barrel, and some of the original steel wood screws appear to have been replaced with later brass versions. The bore is extremely good and there are numerous Board of Ordnance inspection marks. This British military rifle has then eventually been sold out of service as evidenced by foreign stamps to the butt and beneath the trigger guard.

Also included is a Pattern 1887 MkIV sword bayonet in original leather scabbard. Overall length approx. 23.66 in, blade length approx. 18.39in. Blade to a pleasing shiny steel finish, double sided for part of its length with a fuller to each side. The ricasso marked with a Broad Arrow over “WD” and “EM” to one side, the other side with “C’ 91”. The crossguard with atepped forward muzzle ring and a quillon with finial and is of a shiny steel finish with the number “197” stamped into it. The hilt consists of chequered black leather grips with two steel rivets steel pommel, leaf spring to the left. The black leather bod of the scabbard with steel top-mount and drop-shaped frog stud and steel chape.

Both Martini-Henry rifle and bayonet are in good overall condition with useage and age wear commensurate with its age.
